From the fifth to the fourteenth day, the milk is called transitional milk. During this time, colostrum is replaced by mature milk – it becomes lighter, less creamy, it contains more fat, calories and lactose.

After four weeks, breast milk is fully mature, it becomes rich in nutrients, which include proteins, sugars, vitamins, minerals, as well as hormones, growth factors, enzymes and immune cells.

The nutrient content and the level of ingredients in mature milk remain fairly constant, but there are small fluctuations every day, as the mother’s diet and external factors are also variable.

If a mother or child becomes ill, the body produces antibodies to this particular disease, which will also pass into milk. The mother’s body adjusts the milk to the baby’s needs.

Milk also changes during one feeding – at first it is watery, contains more sugars, but during feeding it becomes thicker and contains more fat.

Prolonged breastfeeding, the body continues to produce wholesome milk, which contains a lot of calories and active substances.

Even at seven months, when feeding has already begun, the baby continues to receive 93% of its calories from breast milk.
