Why Can’t We Remember Something

Do you think you are forgetful? In fact, it could be related to the time of day you try to remember something.

Try to recall the same thing later in the day, and you may remember words that have slipped out of your mind. This may be due to the activity of the protein BNAL1.

In the mornings, its level is usually low, and this could be the time when we feel that it is more difficult to recall something. Later in the day, BNAL1 levels rise, and so does our ability to remember.

This protein plays a key role in the activity of the hippocampus, and the hippocampus is the part of the brain that is associated with memory and learning abilities.

The next step would be to look for ways to stimulate BNAL1 activity, according to researchers at the University of Tokyo, and this would also be a good way to help Alzheimer’s patients and people with dementia.
