HOW TO TREAT SORE THROAT WITH NATURAL REMEDIES

The most common causes of sore throats are viruses and bacteria, but sometimes sore throats can show other health problems. How to treat sore throat with natural remedies, and what common mistakes in treatment we make?

Sore throats are one of the most common reasons people see a doctor. It is always important to identify the cause of a sore throat in the early stages of the disease, as the recommended treatment is different in each case.

To understand whether you can be treated at home with natural remedies, or whether you still need to see a doctor, it is important to understand whether the pain is caused by a viral infection, as in about 80% of cases, or bacteria, because then you do not have to see a doctor.

Most of the time, a person can assess it himself.

WHAT CAUSES THROAT PAIN?

1. Viruses – Up to 80% of sore throats are caused by viral infections, which are especially common in the autumn and winter seasons.

2. Bacteria – the most common bacterial inflammation of the throat is angina or pharyngitis (inflammation of the lining of the throat or throat caused by bacteria).

In case of viral sore throat:

– the throat mucosa is markedly red, there may be an increased network of blood vessels in the throat;

Swallowing is easy, there is a feeling that the swallowing movement relieves the symptoms. It is pleasant to drink something warm.

– there is no white plaque on the tonsils and the swelling of the neck is less pronounced than if bacteria caused the inflammation;

In case of bacterial inflammation:

– sore throat begins rapidly;

– there is a high temperature;

– difficulty swallowing, feeling “hot potato” in the throat;

– When the tonsils are swollen, you may have difficulty speaking, and white plaques may appear on the tonsils.

HOW TO TREAT?

In case of bacterial inflammation, when typical symptoms appear, we should consult immediately a doctor, as treatment usually requires the use of antibiotics.

Be sure to see a doctor if you have:

  • fever;
  • intoxication (characterized by nausea, headache and dizziness);
  • severe pain if swallowed;
  • severe swelling of the lymph nodes and if the inflammation and sore throat do not go away for over two weeks.

Viral sore throats can be treated at home with over-the-counter sprays and lozenges designed to reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

We also recommended it to take vitamin C, plenty of water and relax. If there is a fault in the virus, the symptoms usually disappear within a week to two.

If the throat pain is caused by a virus, we do not recommend it to rinse the throat – even if rinsing initially seems to relieve the symptoms, as rinsing further irritates the throat mucosa.

Be careful with rinsing! The mucous membrane needs to be moisturized differently.

In case of a virus infection, mucus multiplies in the throat and there is a disturbing feeling, so people often like to rinse their throat. However, in this way, the mucous membrane is irritated, it remains vulnerable just like a raw wound.

The first feeling may be relief, but then there is even more pain and discomfort. So if there are no white plaques on the tonsils, we should not rinse the throat.

The mucous membrane should be moisturized if it is dry – it is desirable to choose an oil-based product, such as Faringospray, which contains natural sea buckthorn and calendula oils, as well as antibacterial and antioxidant-rich orange oil. It is also suitable for children of 2 years of age.

Rinsing the neck can help and relieve symptoms if angina has started when the tonsils are covered with white plaque.

Then rinsing with chamomile, calendula solution or a low concentration of salt water (one teaspoon of salt without a pile on a glass of warm, boiled water) can help.

A strong saltwater neck can further irritate or even burn the lining of the neck. It is also important to use moderation when rinsing the neck – we can do this only twice a day.

WHAT MISTAKES DO PEOPLE MAKE MOST?

Don’t stay home

To prevent the disease from entering, it is important to start treatment immediately, not to wait for the virus to take effect. It can heal faster, protect health, and prevent others from spreading, as it is contagious in the early stages of a viral infection.

Use alcohol

If the throat hurts, alcohol should not be used, as it not only lowers the overall immunity, but can irritate the throat mucosa and promote the spread of inflammation.

Go to the sauna

When your throat hurts, you do not need to go to the sauna. Go to the sauna when a person feels frozen, but when the disease is already present – the sauna will not help. Under the influence of heat and moisture, inflammation “can go deep” – into a bacterial form.

Improper use of antibiotics

Antibiotics do not work against viral infections. They do not help or speed up the recovery, on the contrary, they weaken your natural defenses.

IF COMPLAINTS ARE NOT GOING AWAY

If the sore throat often recurs or does not go away within two weeks, a disease called reflux can also cause it, in which the acid secreted by the stomach causes chronic inflammation of the lining of the throat.

An otolaryngologist often diagnoses this disease when a person complains of prolonged throat pain.

An adult, healthy person with a virus infection can get sick once or twice a season.

Strong immunity protects against the disease, which is maintained by vitamin C, a healthy diet that includes fruit, regular bedtime for 8 hours and a daily walk in the fresh air for at least 30 minutes.
